Camera technology has been changing for quite a while now.  Just a little over a decade ago, cameras were limited to simple VHS camcorders.  Now with the increase in digital technology and the Internet, the options for what kind of camera to get are seemingly endless.  Video quality within these cameras has gotten better and better and the price for better quality has gotten cheaper and cheaper.  Even the size of cameras has been shrinking as well, and that is most evident in webcams.

The first thing you might be wondering about is what a webcam is exactly.  Webcams are generally inexpensive and small cameras that are pre-ready to connect to the Internet.  The purpose of these cameras is to constantly upload snapshots and video to the Internet.  One of the biggest uses for these types of cameras are through video chats and other types of recordings used to be sent to another person of the Internet with ease.   The technology has rapidly increased with these types of cameras.  When they first came out, webcams were wired cameras that had very poor quality.  Currently you can find wired webcams, computers that come with webcams already installed in the monitor, and wireless webcams.

With the invention of wireless cameras, it has definitely changed the use for what these cameras can do.  Not only are they used for everyday fun activities, but people have also been using them as security devices.  Because they are wireless and already able to connect to the Internet, installing these cameras is very easy.  All you have to do is find the best place to put the camera, turn the camera on and sit back and watch.  The computer that it is connected to then monitors and can also record whatever the camera can see.

Webcams often come with software along with the camera so the ease of installation and figuring out how to use the camera is incredibly easy.  There is a small problem still with the image quality and the type of lighting conditions the camera needs for producing quality images.  However it is only a matter of time before these webcams have the same features and image quality or regular handheld camcorders.  If you are looking for a quick and easily way to not only chat with friends and family over the Internet, but also have a quick and easy surveillance system, wireless webcams are a great way to go.
