Wireless Security Cameras: Better Protection

Many people are putting security systems in their house.  As the technology progresses and the systems become less expensive, getting a home security system has never been easier.  However there are many things to consider, especially if you are considering security system with cameras.  There are two types of cameras that are available, wired and wireless.   If you are looking for the most flexibility out of your security system, using wireless cameras is the best route for you.

Now, one thing you need to realize before you purchase anything is knowing that even though the prices of wireless security cameras have dropped in the past few years, they are still more expensive than wired cameras.  However, the flexibility for these cameras is much greater.  With wired cameras, installation can be a big pain because you have to figure out how to hide the wires, drill a bunch of holes in the wall and it can all be a big mess.  Wireless cameras are great because, well they are wireless.  This allows you to move the cameras anywhere you want to with ease.

Knowing how wireless cameras work is very important.  The cameras send a video signal to a receiver with a transmitter.  You can connect the receiver to a VCR, computer, DVR or anything that allows a camera being hooked up to it.  The biggest thing you need to look into when buying a wireless security camera system is the distance the wireless signal can be transmitted.  Of course if you are using them for home purposes, the signal length can be a lot less, but if you are using them for larger areas, you want a camera system that can reach long distances.

Obviously, the greater the distance, the more expensive the security system will be. It’s also important to know what materials will be the in the way of the camera and the receiver because some materials will cause interference.  Most wireless security cameras have the ability to penetrate through walls, glass, plastics, wood, fiberglass and some common types of metals used in the home.

Wireless security cameras are a great addition to a security system.  The ease of use and installation is one of the many advantages to using a wireless camera system.  Just be aware of house your home or whatever area is set up so you can buy the best equipment that will suit your needs the best.
