IP Security
Cameras: Keeping You Safe from Around the World
Security
technology has come a long way in the past few decades. Video
surveillance technology has been one of the areas of security technology
that has been affected the most. In the past, people ad to rely on
analog surveillance systems to record whatever they were trying to
protect. Analog cameras have been around since the 1970’s and have done
their job very well, but now times have changed and the invention of the
IP security camera has definitely changed the game.
IP cameras came
out of the idea that the analog cameras were working, but people wanted
more functionality. It all started out of the invention of the simple
web cameras, or webcam as most people call them. With that, the
technology progressed and the resolution and video quality of what the
cameras could record has increased drastically. And with that, people
started using these cameras in conjunction with the Internet.
IP cameras are
stand-alone cameras that enable you to view whatever is being recording
anywhere around the world. There is virtually and wires to mess with and
can only be accessed by one person, unless the person controlling the
camera allows them to do so. The images being recorded can be viewed
anywhere around the world as long as you have a computer and Internet
access. Of course you must make sure that you are first on a secure
network before viewing anything.
The reason IP
cameras are better than analog systems is because they can connect to
the Internet much easier. There is less interference with the IP
cameras because they use less wires and the imagery being recorded is
already encrypted.
Having an IP
camera is great, but there are a few things you should know about before
installing one. The use up a lot of bandwidth, which in the long run
can either end up costing you a lot of money or if your bandwidth is
limited, your web host might shut you down. Another thing to know about
is the cost, although the price has been decreasing the past few years,
they are still considerable more expensive than analog cameras.
Regardless of the
cons of having an IP camera, the good definitely outweighs the bad. The
overall ease of use is one of the biggest positives IP cameras have
going for them. Anyone would feel safer knowing that they can view
whatever they are protecting from wherever they are. |
